THE READING SURVEY
Selecting the most effective literature can be a challenge for parents who are overwhelmed by all of the book choices. The first place to start is with your child's interests. Think about the activities your child enjoys and look for books that include that subject. If you want to have a more detailed conversation with your child about his or her interests, complete a reading survey together and talk about their answers. Many parents say this simple activity tells them a lot about their child that they didn't know! More importantly, it will point you in the right direction for book selection. Your child's teacher and local librarian can help to further refine your search so that you are reading the stories that are the best fit for your youngster's readiness level.
